The college basketball schedule is nothing like the college football schedule. We often know opponents for Ohio State football years in advance and then just fill in the blanks with the Big Ten schedule. For OSU hoops however, we often get the full details an opponents for its schedule a few months prior to the start of the campaign.
On that note, we’re starting to hear some of the 2025-2026 schedule take shape. Earlier this week, the CBS Sports Classic announced that the Buckeyes will play against the North Carolina Tar Heels in Atlanta, Georgia for this year’s event, and now we have some further news of another opponent.
According to multiple reports, Ohio State and Notre Dame are finalizing a home-and-home deal in which the Fighting Irish will come to Columbus this year, with OSU making a return trip next season to South Bend.
The Irish aren’t nearly the power in football and it won’t draw near the same interest as the two matching up on the gridiron, but it’s still a quality, non-mid-major opponent that can get the blood boiling and boost a potential NCAA resume. OSU holds a 9-4 all-time record against Notre Dame including a win in the last matchup of the two in 2020 when Ohio State won on the road 90-85.
The Fighting Irish didn’t have the best season last year, finishing just 15-18, and will be looking for a bounce-back season this winter. If that sounds familiar, it’s the same type of year the Buckeyes are looking for as well.
