Covey led the NFL with 417 punt return yards in 2023
After adding six players in the draft and 17 undrafted free agents, the Los Angeles Rams still aren’t done building out their roster for 2025. On Monday, the Rams announced they signed former Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver Britain Covey to a one-year deal.
Covey originally came into the NFL as an undrafted rookie in 2022 out of the University of Utah. The Eagles signed him following the draft that year and despite cutting him in August, he stuck around on the practice squad. He played 17 games as a rookie, primarily on special teams, before playing slightly more snaps on offense in 2023 and 2024.
His biggest contributions came as a return specialist. In his three years with the Eagles, he returned 68 punts for 771 yards with a long of 54 yards. He led the NFL with 417 punt return yards in 2023 on 23 returns. Additionally, he returned 11 kickoffs for 236 yards during his time with the Eagles.
Covey will presumably compete for a role as a returner with the Rams, who leaned on Xavier Smith and Jordan Whittington last season.
